Owen Hoegh
Club Director
I was a varsity head coach in Byron, MN (where we lived prior to the summer of 2022) for nine years. I also was the director of a small VB club in Byron, where I was a teacher. I’ve had the opportunity to coach many special players, including several currently playing collegiately. I greatly enjoyed playing sports in high school, college (baseball at Augustana), and had a brief stint playing in the Philadelphia Phillies organization after that. I am a volunteer coach for the varsity team at Boyden-Hull. I am married to Leah, and we have five kids. I’m the pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church (NE of Hull). I enjoy what the congregation there has called me to do.

This club team comes out of experiences in a family that loves to play volleyball, yet we cherish other things in this world as well. I have some concerns about the place of sports in our culture, yet I recognize that they can provide opportunities to develop meaningful relationships and amazing fun. I'd like to achieve those good ends for highly motivated athletes that desire consistent training and competing time with/against other great athletes and teams. I'd just rather achieve those good things without the time and financial costs that seem to be a part of the larger, national travel club experience.
I’d like to provide the best solutions I can come up with for our teams. I bring a strategic, analytical, competitive approach to the sport, but I prioritize individual growth and fun throughout the improvement process. It’s an awesome game, requiring so much connectedness to others, having to solve difficult problems together that the opponent (and sport) presents. I am quite optimistic that, through the contributions of all involved (including athletes, parents, families, coaches, etc.), that this could be a good “fit” for many NW Iowa families. I'm thrilled about the opportunity to help with this program, and to do this with talented, giving people!
